Jerry Agar: 14 years later!

Jerry Agar has been on the air since October, 1973. I interviewed him in 2010 when he was starting at Newstalk 1010 CFRB in Toronto. He went back to Canada after spending 25 years in the U.S. (he's originally from Canada), and is still at Newstalk 1010. He talks about a lot in this update: what he thinks of the radio industry and talk radio; why he switched from music radio to talk; his experience including WGN and WLS in Chicago, and smaller markets throughout the country; Kevin Metheny and his father, Terrell Metheny; his struggles, advice, the importance of being authentic, and a lot more. This is from a livestream that we did.

Note: this is the video he didn’t want me to play during the interview: a van crashed into the ABC 7 studio while he was on the air (back in 2007, just one year after he started anchoring there).

Watch the Radiogirl livestreams and videos at the Radiogirl FB page and on YouTube (also live-streaming on Radiogirl TwitterMetrolingua Twitter, and my own Fakebook page).

Java Joel Murphy: Wired on Radio

Joel Murphy (aka Java Joel) is on the air in Cleveland at 96.5 KISS-FM, and is also the Music Director at 106.5 The Lake in Cleveland, afternoon talent on 94.7 Hits FM in Montreal, and an all-around fun guy. He talks about his start in New York and his Chicago career, which included an interesting run at 103.5 KISS-FM, a short one at WCKG, his infamous interview with Justin Timberlake, getting fired, living in uber-suburban Wheaton, then getting hired in Cleveland by Kevin Metheny, the awesomeness of Julian Nieh and Jay Niice, and more.
