Mark Carman: Doing sports again in Chicago

Mark Carman did his first podcast 100 episodes ago, and now he's back in Chicago at WGN with the David Kaplan Show. This is also the first podcast that includes play-by-play: we recorded it while he was watching the Cubs-Brewers game because he was prepping for the post-game that night on WGN. He talks about his on-air gig at KCSP/610 Sports Radio in Kansas City, where he also worked with Nick Wright; why he went to Yahoo! Sports radio in Houston, where he did a show with Doug Russell; the three upscale hostels he owns in Chicago: Oak 112, Urban Holiday Lofts, and Holiday Jones; why he got into the travel business; why he left Yahoo!; how he joined the David Kaplan Show; his resume that includes WCBR with The Naked Truth About Sports, producing at WSCR 670 The Score, being the news and sports director at WLBK, doing St. Edwards University play-by-play; what it's like to work with David Kaplan; Napgate; and more (he also did a podcast before he went to Kansas City, so he kept his promise to do another one if he'd come back to Chicago!).

Sports Guy Mark Carman: the Biz and How to Get In

Sports reporter and producer Mark Carman explains why he thinks his boss, sportscaster Dave Kaplan, is great, what it's like to work in the sports media, and which famous athletes he's met. He also gives advice for folks who want to work in the sports media and explains why he loves sports reporter Dan Levy. He even manages to insult this podcast though promises to return even when he makes it big.
